The addition of a motor and battery is the primary distinction between traditional and electric bikes. According to our research, an electric bicycle can weigh anywhere from 26 to 119 pounds (12 to 54 kg).

Different types of ebikes

Ebikes serve a variety of functions in the lives of their owners. Some people may be tired of the crowded public transportation in the morning and use their ebike to commute to work while others may take out their ebikes for a weekend cruise up to the mountains or even off-roading! We will briefly discuss various ebikes in this section.

Commuting ebike

We’ve all had our fair share of morning traffic jams and the ensuing road rage. What better way to avoid this unnecessary source of stress than to ride your ebike to work? The portability of an ebike is a concern for city ebikers. Ebikes used for commuting include cruisers, folding, and compact models.

Cruiser ebike weight, Folding ebike weight

Cruiser, folding, and compact ebike weight

Cruiser ebikes frequently have U-shaped handlebars that provide the user with an upward riding position. They are popular among daily commuters and are occasionally used for leisurely cruising. Cruiser ebikes are the preferred option for paved roads and bicycle paths in cities. A cruiser ebike weighs about 57 pounds on average and it can weigh up to 88 pounds (40kg).

The folding ebike is popular among ebike commuters due to its folding form factor and portability. Its small footprint distinguishes it from other types of ebikes. The average weight of a folding ebike is 54 pounds, with a maximum weight of 75 pounds (34kg).

Another type of commuting ebike is the compact ebike, which has smaller frames and wheels. Compact ebikes are less than 24 inches in length. Even though they cannot be folded, compact ebikes are a viable option for those looking for smaller electric bikes. A compact ebike’s average weight is 73 pounds, and the maximum weight for a compact ebike in our study was 119 pounds (54kg)

Mountain ebike

A mountain ebike, as the name implies, is ideal for mountaineering adventures. When you’re riding your ebike up a steep mountain and you can’t go any further, your electric mountain bike comes to the rescue. Obviously, we all need that extra push to get through the rough terrain in the mountains. Mountain ebikes have an average weight of 53 lbs and can weigh up to 88 lbs (40kg)

MTB Weight, Road ebike weight

Road ebike

Road ebikes are intended for use on paved roads rather than rough terrains and mountains. This category is distinguished by the absence of suspension and drop handlebars and because of their lightweight and aerodynamic design, they are ideal for high-speed rides. A road ebike’s average weight is around 35 lbs, and the heaviest weigh around 44 lbs (20kg), making road ebikes the lightest category in our market research.

Hybrid ebike

As the name implies, hybrid ebikes are the perfect marriage of the features of other types of ebikes, making hybrid ebikes one of the most popular choices of ebike riders. They have fenders and flat handlebars. Their tires are a cross between thin road tires and thicker mountain bike tires. Hybrid ebikes typically weigh around 56 pounds, with a maximum weight of 95 pounds (25 to 43kg).
